A Talk in A Tomb

Introduction

Miracles don’t make sense. Attempts to make miracles into an equation can’t produce an equal sign. Like mathematicians, many people mark miracles as unimaginable and reason them out. Since they don’t match their polished ways, they deny their validity and dismiss them as lies. These sophisticated thinkers trend back to the norm, swaying society with their influence. Reducing our Lord’s power with reasoning demeans His omnipotence.

What marker are you using in the consideration of miracles? While your Bibles may be marked and highlighted, does God’s Word equal belief in your heart?  If not, ask for help! Your heart may need its own miracle.

Lord I believe; help my unbelief! Mk. 9:24

How does the Lord answer this request? His Word. Believing is a gift imparted through the Word. It is grown and matured through Scripture. This is where the mortal dies as it meets the immortal God. Imparting His life resurrects the mind from carnality into Christ. Isn’t this a miracle in itself? Why do people need more than Jesus?

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; ye not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal. 2:20

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Rom. 8:11

Miracle Seekers

What astonishes me is where the Father chooses to reside. His glorious, almighty kingdom isn’t reserved for heaven, but is placed through the Holy Spirit into His people. Neither shall they say, Lo Here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Lk. 17:21 My how close He wants to be to us! Such love! Why would any believer seek signs and wonders outside the Word of God, knowing His Spirit quietly lives within? It is in error when the focus turns to what God can do instead of knowing who He is. They are missing the miracle. Believers aren’t the only ones who don’t see this truth.

During Jesus’ walk on earth, the Pharisees continued to question who He really was. They demanded to know when this kingdom He was speaking of should arrive. To their dismay, Jesus flat out told them it surely wasn’t going to be seen by their carnal eyes. Jesus said the coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed. Traditional adherence to the law won’t see it. Why? Without Christ Jesus, the natural eye can’t believe or welcome God’s ways.

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation. Lk. 17:20

The Pharisees were looking in the wrong place for the kingdom. They expected it to be on earth.  This is no different today when Christians are calling God down to show His glory, signs and wonders. Church services have become an emotional carnival. His glory is here. It is in God’s Word and in believer’s hearts. These miracle seekers long for their senses to experience God. This earthly worship is dangerous. The miracle has already arrived. His name is Jesus. It is sad to see hearts looking like tombs, longing for the life of Christ to appear.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. Eph. 1:17.

A Talk in A Tomb

Believers, it is time to have a talk in a tomb. We need to get back to the basics of our faith. Why a tomb and not a coffee shop with a latte? A tomb is not your typical place to hold uplifting conversations. The atmosphere isn’t a warm gathering place but cold and grievous. Its sign doesn’t bring hot drinks into view, but draws a picture of our own death. Well, we aren’t going to meet in just any tomb. We are entering the tomb of Jesus. It’s well worth the visit for it brings us to the bones of our faith.  While we are touring the tomb, take interest in the shift of atmosphere. It is where two worlds collide. Spiritual beings break the barrier of human reasoning. Let’s meet up with the women who serve as our witnesses.

Spice Deliverers

Common courtesy and love beckoned women to prepare spices for the burial of Jesus. As they were going to the tomb they wondered if anyone would help them open the door. The spice deliverers were more than surprised when their first question was answered.

Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? Mk. 16:3

The who turned out to be brilliant angels.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold two men stood by the in shining garments. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth. Lk. 24:2-5

Before the supernatural beings could address the purpose of their visit, fear had to be removed.

And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not. Matt. 28:5

The bright beings then begin to fill the tomb with truth. It comes in the form of a question, causing them to think deeply.

Why seek ye the living among the dead? Lk. 24:5

Common sense carries spices to a dead body, not to one alive. Nonetheless, the messenger didn’t prolong their conversation with great consolation. Direct and clear, the angel explained the disappearance of his body.

He is not here, but is risen: Lk. 24:6

The fascination so far might center on the angels coming into plain view. Anything out of the ordinary serves as a juicy story. However, something happened to these women to send them out of the tomb and onto a mission. They didn’t sit around to debate, doubt or disagree with the heavenly messenger.

And they departed quickly form the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. Matt 28:8

Miracle Moving Power

What moved their minds and hearts to take off running? The angel’s declaration includes the secret.

Remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. Saying the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Lk. 24:6-7

The angel begins his statement with remember. Remember what? What Jesus told them. It was the words from Jesus that sealed the deal. Once they recalled His words, their hearts propelled belief into action. This is faith at work. Faith is evidence of God’s power in the lives of His people. As the women skurried to tell the disciples what they found out, we witness the miracle power of God moving within their hearts.

I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18

This word of remembrance didn’t keep them stuck in reasoning or emotional pain, but set them on wings to believe! How the knowledge of our Lord exceeds any angel encounter! (Don’t forget, angels are only helpers of God.)

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? Heb. 1:14

The working power of the Word is glorious. These mournful women came to the tomb with grief, but left in joy.  Their confusion transforms into clarity. Fear is flying out on the command of an angel. Believing replaces embalming. The words of Jesus changed the tone in a tomb, from death to life.

(Please note there are two types of fear. The fear they had upon departure had to be one of great reverence and respect. It couldn’t be the fear upon their arrival which causes perplexity, confusion, dread and the fight, flight or freeze response. The mighty angels removed this fear immediately, allowing human frailty to remain in their supernatural presence. How else could they have stayed to hear the message. Don’t you agree, fear interferes with the message of faith?)

It wasn’t shining angels or scrutinizing the tomb for evidence the women needed, it was the comforting truth of Jesus.

Conclusion

You don’t need to visit the tomb of Jesus to experience your miracle. Jesus reveals Himself in His Word. If you are bumping into dead ends in your belief, meditate on Scripture. He will quicken your senses with sparkling truth. There are to be no tombs in the heart of a born-again believer. May the Lord roll unbelieving stones from our hearts and breathe in new life.

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stoney heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Ezek. 36:26

Who is wise and he shall understand these things? Prudent and he shall know them? For the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein. Hosea 14:9

So now may we walk out of the tomb together and remember the sacred Scriptures. Our minds will then welcome and share in the miracles and glory His Word performs.

And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. Lk. 24:9

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of the saints. And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe according to the working of his mighty power. Eph. 1:18-19
