Food Obsession: A Deceiving Spirit Spoiling our Minds

(Due to its content, you may desire to take 7 days to ponder these 7 points)

Introduction

Christians aren’t afraid of cows contaminating their spirits like Hindus, but could be fed some false beliefs regarding food too. Some health-conscious minds hope dinner can cure their disease, but can’t see the chemicals floating into organic fields. Attempting to grow pure plants in an impure environment is like refurbishing sin. It can’t be accomplished.

This belief in the earth is quite befuddling. Are we worshipping creation or God, our Creator? If we think we can come up with the recipe of redemption through food, we are taking matters way over our heads, into our hands. Pride continues to cause thorns and weeds to stifle the seeds in God’s Word. If we want to go back to Eden, the Kingdom of right living, go to the Bible. Here we find the way back to the Father, where peace begins. It is hidden from human eyes but brought to light by the bread of life.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth you, Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Jn. 14:27

Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 5:1

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Jn. 6:35

This bread provides a trellis, out of the garden of Eden’s sin into Eternal springs. Clinging to the vine of Christ, the cross takes God’s children to the Tree of life.  Home to God’s throne, Our Lord lifts and raises believers up with Himself, out of the curse of sin and disease.

I am the vine; ye are the branches. Jn. 15:5

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him. Rev. 22:2-3

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Eph. 2:6

*An interesting side note, the word origin of bread is from “airo,” meaning to lift or raise, possibly referring to the process of bread rising. The corresponding Hebrew word for bread refers to provision and sustenance. (Bible Hub, Strong’s Lexicon)

The cross brings us to the Tree of Life. Some describe Jesus as the Tree of Life since He offers us new, resurrected life. However manner these mysteries of God unfold, Christ Jesus is the only one who lifts and feeds us with healing leaves, fending off our disease. On earth as it is in heaven so we pray. Beyond our intelligence, the Spirit works healing through the Word of Christ. May we view our Bibles as holding healing balm.

Ready for Real Healing?

Ready to close the books on religiosity and commune with the bread of life? The plate Jesus offers won’t be touched by plagues of disease or the devil. Sit down and dine at the Father’s table of health, peace and provision.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Ps. 91:5-6

*Pestilence in Hebrew is deber: pestilence, plague. Usage: widespread disease. Bible Hub Strong’s Lexicon.

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. Ps. 32:7

Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. Matt. 22:4

I, the LORD, am your healer. Ex. 15:26

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD. Jer. 30:17

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them abundance of peace and truth. Jer. 33:6

Point 1

Fig Leaves Couldn’t Fix the Sin

The root of the food obsession must be dug up and exposed. Religion and food have been longtime companions in the fallen kingdom. After sin came by a bite of a fruit all havoc broke loose. Sin and sickness entered the garden of Eden, exposing our minds, bodies and earth to corruption. A flaming sword of divine judgment kept mankind out of God’s presence. Eating the fruit of sin, deception, deteriorating soil and disease replaced perfection. From the day of Adam’s rebellion, mankind has tried to redeem his errors. Hiding fig leaves over naked bodies couldn’t fix the sin which severed them from God and His Kingdom. Vegetarian methods failed from the start. Redemption from sin required blood.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Gen. 3:7

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Gen. 3:21

Without the Son of God’s sacrifice, the cycle of man’s nature could never change. Apart from Christ, he continues to work his garden with sweat and brow, choosing his own knowledge over the Tree of Life. Redemption from sin and its curses is found on the cross. Therefore, working on your diet is like earning the health that God’s grace gives. Falling from grace occurs anytime we try to work for God’s gift. Pray God grants us all greater revelation. Let the drumroll of truth continue, diets don’t deliver us from the fallen world of disease, Jesus does.

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Gen. 3:17-19

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Eph. 1:7

Point 2

Will the Real Healer Please Sit Down and Dine with Me?

The obsession of food consumption is on the rise in the American household. Little children are reading ingredients in fear of meat contaminating their conscience. Healing foods promoting long life are heard in coffee shops, magazines, internet and conversations in the church.

Why did Jesus say, ‘I am the bread of life?’ Would it be He foreknew the future of food holding strongholds in our minds and ruining fellowship with the Father?

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Jn. 6:35

It appears a spirit of delusion is attacking our diets. Food is our generation’s false religion. The introduction might align with eastern idols sent into the USA. Shouldn’t the church be regulating these imports infiltrating God’s people?

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. 1 Tim. 4:1

Connecting some dots to Hinduism, we see cows free to roam while minds are roped in stalls of false hope. Disheartening are these doctrines which focus on diets for deliverance. They believe consumption of meat is related to misery, bondage, impurities, anger, jealousy, anxiety, suspicion and a terrible fear of death. Don’t eat meat but plunder the plant life. Avoidance advances piety and purity. The taboo on killing sacred beef has replaced the sacrifice of sin on Calvary. How sincerely deceived these precious people are. For them, achieving a better life is by pushing away a hamburger. Following laws leave sin strengthened and souls helplessly lost. Stay with me, this idea goes deeper than putting food into the digestive system.

The strength of sin is the law. 1 Cor. 15:56

For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. Phil. 2:21

Deviating from Christ, to forge a digestive plan to perfection, is a wrong system to follow. Hold onto your belt, let’s dig into the American diet before we say this doesn’t apply to us. There’s a fine line that is rarely looked upon but easily erased in our faith. So, please don’t point fingers to an obvious false religion without checking who is pulling chairs up to your dinner table. Deceiving spirits are slipping in, crossing the borders of our Christian, American beliefs. Have you unknowingly added them to the Gospel?

Point 3

The Purpose of Food verses the Purpose of The Cross

Sharing Basic Ingredients

If the Hindu religion fends off forks of meat to push contamination away, how are we any different when we believe foods can bring our bodies into perfection? Both views honor food to take away sin and its destructive power. Depending on certain ingredients to receive healing is on many hot plates. This belief is in the batch of good works which will be left to burn. This doctrine is the old leaven, ruining the dough.

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Cor. 5:8

Jesus must be standing in the kitchen, hoping His Word is read before a recipe. Perhaps, when we forget the purpose for our fuel, we step into a food court expecting some kind of miracle. Sadly, people are mixing food into the doctrine of salvation. A less obvious line is crossed and generating a food craze.

Food’s Purpose

Getting caught up with a craze, makes one crazy. Get back to the basic purpose of food. Food provides nutrition and energy, supporting the body’s needs. However, it is limited in what it can do. Are we making food into a false god?

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex. 20:3

False gods come in many forms. Jesus did not say eat this herb and you will be healed. The Word declares there is one way to be made whole. It is not by food, but God Himself. Don’t go out on a fruity limb with this statement. Before you add junk food to your shopping list, finish this message. God being the healer doesn’t mean to get silly and send useless suppers down your food pipe.

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. Deut. 32:39

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Mt. 4:23

Of course, we aren’t to be ignorant and treat our temples carelessly. We are not speaking about pouring putrid dishes into the mouth. Eat with wisdom to maintain the health God provides. How health is achieved is on the menu of this discussion. Come to the cross to understand what Jesus carried, crucified and canceled. His resurrection will reinstate which power heals, changing your fixation from food to the crucifixion.

The Purpose of the Cross: Don’t Take Disease out of the Crucifixion

Cultural dining has dimmed a light on the cross. Without a complete view of the atonement, we accept a partial salvation. Most denominations share the commonality of doctrine regarding sin. Sin is forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. A great divide arrives when disease and sickness have their promises on a different platter. The timers of sin and sickness don’t go off at the same time. When Jesus cried, “It is finished”, some believers add a sticky note stating “future” into His promise. This view causes suffering souls to wait for death’s release to receive their healing.

It appears some dice sin on a cutting board and discard the redemption of disease for another day. However, It is finished means sin, sickness and disease have already been atoned for. The crucifixion supports this past tense perspective on healing as well. The Old Testament prophesy states, we are healed (Is. 53:5) and the New Testament changes the tense, supporting the completion of the cross to past tense; we were healed. (1 Pet. 2:24)

Surely, he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Is. 53:4-5

Who his own self bare our sins I his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Pet. 2:24

If we are completely forgiven, why aren’t we completely healed? Where is the doctrine getting its information which declares healing hides the bread of life in the ovens of heaven? Why are they closing oven’s door on the diseased?

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the LORD God unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with wool, ye kill them that were fed: but ye feed not the flock. The diseased have ye not strengthen, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broke, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost, but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. Ez. 34:1-4

Jesus has opened the door since the beginning of time and hasn’t shut it. His atonement for sin stretches its evidence in Leviticus 14. From Abraham’s healing prayers for women’s barrenness to Elijah raising a dead boy back into his mother’s arms, the Old Testament has the same hinge on its doors as the New Testament. Jesus didn’t put up an out to lunch sign, stating to come back later for healing. Not once did the Father deny a diseased person a cure. Unbelief did.

So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. Gen. 20:17

And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. 1 Kings 17:23

And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Mt. 13:58

Don’t put Jesus into the class of withholding favor nor belittle people of faith who might fail. Both don’t reveal the truth of who Jesus is nor represent His redeeming power.

 Point 4

Discerning the Source

Hold people’s opinions and personal experiences under the light of the Word. Don’t make a doctrine out of another’s research or relevant testimony. People of great faith also fall. Forgive them but refrain from creating your faith according to their failure or success. Conduct the work of studying Scripture yourself. List every reason you believe or don’t believe in God’s healing. Now, let the Spirit tell you if the promise for healing disease is on a back burner, waiting its turn to be delivered to your table. What you believe, you will receive. If you don’t want to be healed and want to wait, may it be done according to your faith in Christ. Whatever our differences may be, we all come on common ground when we don’t feel good. While one seeks a Savior and another a spice, seeking a solution for health and wellness is our prayer.

According to your faith be it unto you. Matt. 9:29

And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole, go in peace. Lk. 8:48

When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? Jn. 5:6

My prayer is for Christ to speak louder than my words in this blog. He alone enlightens our eyes. What we read one day will hold great revelation the next. So, let’s stick to what He says without side kicking His grace into good works. Even for our health.

Point 5

Falling off the Table of Grace are Crumbs from a Diet of Do’s and Don’ts

Sincere believers may be adding their own works to grace. Since the work of Christ Jesus is finished, why are we eating crumbs from a diet of do’s and don’ts? I’m not referring to a doctor’s recommendation to avoid eating sugar if you are diabetic. Rather, where is your allegiance to grace? Are works slipping into your drink?

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Ro. 14:17

How easy to fall off the table of grace. Answer honestly. What esteem and expectation do you put in food? Why do you eat certain foods? Does the hope you place on your plate rightfully belong in the cup of Christ’s redemption? Look at the lame man who couldn’t work or walk. When Peter found him at the temple, he saw expectation in his eyes. Hope sprung the healing power of Jesus into his legs and he walked.

And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Acts 3:5

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have given I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. Acts 2:6-8

Every healing act in the Bible is accredited to God, not the power behind an earthly product.  Don’t put Jesus behind your diet or doctoring. He needs to headline your decisions. The Holy Spirit will direct your choices and give you desires which will positively impact and sustain your specific needs.

Trusting in Him is better than an MRI; for He lives inside with a great view. (I am not suggesting medical tests are wrong so please don’t take this out of context) The Spirit knows your body well and is the life-giving power of God. Cooperating with Christ may go against the grain of this world, but will bring Christ glory. Keep following the Word who became flesh and personally understands what troubles you.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by the Spirit that dwelleth in you. Rom. 8:11

But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Jn.14:26

Therefore, fix your eyes on Jesus and your food fixation will absolve. Allow the Spirit to finish His good work in you. It will be a relief when this obsession becomes obsolete once and for all.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:2

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Phil. 2:13

Point 6

Stop Eating Imitation Food

The fixation on food will come to a stop sign when reason surrenders to the Spirit. Reason is what the fallen mind relies upon whereas the redeemed have the mind of Christ. Reason still vies for control, so it needs a daily washing in the Word. There is a big difference between a decision made in the carnal mind or the spirit. The consequences will lead to either death or peace.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom. 8:6

Danger arrives when rational thinking isn’t subservient to the Spirit. One goes solo, crossing the street into the enemy’s world.  Driving without God’s helmet of protection will direct you onto roads of wrong decisions. It’s like following google maps instead of God’s Word. An artificial intelligence is trusted. Setting people up for mind-control, Siri is an example of what sources are grooming pathways into society’s brains. If the internet draws interest over daily meditation, the devil wins. No doubt, scrolling through sources of information fascinates the mind. It hooks people with a temporary, feel-good surge of serotonin. Be careful, this sparkling effect eventually fades.

But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 2 Thes. 3:3

Deception has many bright faces, but the same mouth bites us. Shrewdness seeps in quietly. Hiding beneath prestigious knowledge, poisonous snakes pierce their forked mouths into our minds. The lies slither not only into universities but wholistic medicine as well. Wholistic health works with the body to reestablish order into its system. However, it doesn’t cure the spiritual root of disease.

Like a snake charmed, degrees dazzle mankind. And yet, convincing studies change textbooks on health quite often. It wearies the mind to keep up with the latest trends. Haven’t you notice your supplies of energy expires while researching man’s ideas? Stop feeding your mind with imitation food.

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Ecc. 12:12

Deafen the shifting advice which only shadows your choices. Before Twitter or Ted Talks, open the Book of Life. Time with truth will bring health to your bones. Healing springs up speedily as you surrender your directions into the Savior’s hands. He will reinforce the drink and bread He gives will never fail.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to the bones. Prov. 3:7-8

Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. Is. 58:8

Every good gift and every perfect gift are from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadows of turning. James 1:17

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. Eph. 4:14

For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 1 Cor. 14:33

Point 7

Benefits of Communion

Although the Kingdom of God lives inside us, evil is outside, constantly ringing our doorbells. Wisdom tells us to lock the devil out, for he can’t offer a solution for our infirmities. When the Father’s children hurt, He offers them supper, to eat and drink with Him. During this communion, what is broken will be put back into wholeness.

They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying Peace, peace, when there is no peace. Jer. 6:14

*Hurt in Hebrew is sheber: break, fracture, ruin, destruction, collapse. Bible Hub Strong’s Lexicon. Corresponding Greek/Hebrew is to break, especially of bread.

Likewise, the spirit also helpeth our infirmities. Rom. 8:26

*Infirmities in Strong’s Lexicon, Bible Hub, means weaknesses, infirmities, sickness, disease.

Communion is a cup of fellowship with the bread of life. It is an element of health the apostle Paul preached on. His revelation on the benefits in communion is being reintroduced in our Christian circles. Discerning the body from the blood confirms disease was for Jesus to bear, not believers. If you haven’t already done so, investigate this holy meal, for it provides supernatural peace for the spirit, soul and body. People partaking communion in error, were known to be sick and die prematurely.

Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the break and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world. 1 Cor. 11:28-34

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds though Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:7

*Peace in Hebrew is shalom: completeness, welfare, well-being, safety, prosperity, health. It describes harmonious relationships between individuals, nations, and between God and humanity. It also conveys a sense of wholeness and well-being both physically and spiritually. Bible Hub Strong’s Lexicon, Corresponding Greek/Hebrew Entries and Usage.)

The Spirit’s clarity on communion will usher you to liberation. As faith grows, belief in Christ rips off deception’s blindfold. Vain words and practices fall away, absolving your food fixation. So, let’s finally get rid of the root that is poisoning our pots. Partake of the meal that heals. Jesus is serving health today.

Let no man deceive you with vain words for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. Eph. 5:6-7

So they poured out for them to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof. But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot. And there came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat. And his servitor said, What should I set this before a hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus said the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof. So he set it before them and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the LORD. 2 Ki. 4:40-44

Conclusion

Sickness and disease are a physical manifestation rooted in sin. Sin is a spiritual problem. Natural means won’t cure a spiritual condition. Only Jesus could cancel sin’s power and offer us life. Therefore, His crucifixion is the cure for all manner of sickness and disease. Foods can help manage symptoms but fall short in canceling the root cause. The temptation to shop outside the Kingdom of God is fierce. There are two kingdoms vying for your attention. You must conduct business in one or the other. Keep in step with the Spirit of God and you won’t stumble into the spirit of the world for help. The devil’s service desk offers changing, counterfeit cures. Glean truth from God’s Word which remains the same. The Gospel saving you from sin, delivers you from sickness and disease as well.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Cor. 2:12

Jesus is the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. Heb. 13:8
